What to Ask When Shopping for Your Wedding Dress

As you make arrangements to shop for your wedding dress, there are probably a million and one things rolling around inside your head. On the one hand, you’re extremely excited and are ready to make some fun memories but on the other hand, you’re nervous. There are so many options out there – how do you possibly find the dress?

What to Ask When Shopping for Your Wedding Dress | Ceremonies

Luckily, every bridal shop comes fully equipped with a staff of professionals who are eagerly waiting to help. All you need to know is what to ask:

Ask about the best fit for your body. Your consultant sees women with all different body types come into her shop every day, so trust her opinion on which style gown may be best for yours. Every bride walks into a fitting with some sort of idea of what she’s looking for, but don’t be afraid to branch outside of that. Be open to trying on a variety of different styles based on your consultant’s suggestions; you may be surprised and end up loving something you would have never picked otherwise. Never judge a dress on how it looks on the hanger.

Ask about current trends. Just like with everyday fashion, bridal fashion has its fads and what may have been considered trendy last year may be out-of-date this year. If choosing a style that is considered to be very fashionable right now is very important to you, let your consultant know so that she can point you in the right direction.

Ask about the bustle. Considering the fact that a bustle is what is going to make it easier for you to walk and dance at the reception, it is important that you find one that is appropriate for the type of gown you’ve picked. That’s right, not all bustles are the same. Because of this, you want to be sure to speak up and ask your consultant so that you can pick one that is most comfortable and accentuates the look of the dress.

Ask about pricing and fees. Walking into your fitting, you know that you’ll have to pay for the dress and the possibility of alterations. However, keep in mind that each shop will have own fees. You’ll want to ask up front if there is a flat rate or if you pay for your alterations based on severity. You’ll also want to ask if there are any hidden fees for bustling, storage and pressing the dress. Knowing exactly what you’ll be paying for before making any decisions will keep you from going into shock when you get the bill.

Of course, these are only a few of the things you should be discussing with your wedding dress consultant. To check out the extended list, visit HuffingtonPost.com and let us know if you have anything to add!
